Matterialism

There is a fundamental question: Does any of it matter?
There are three possible answers.

  1. Nothing matters.
  2. Some things matter, and some don’t.
  3. Everything matters.

The world where nothing matters is a world of infinite entertainment and dopamine hits. Where we chase novelty and fun, just for the heck of it. It is the hedonistic treadmill on steroids, spiraling into the most ornate emptiness imaginable. There is always something more meaningless to explore.

Then there is the world where some things matter, and some don’t. It is the world of highlights and shadows. Parts of that world stay hidden, even though they are not going anywhere. The trouble here is that it’s exceptionally difficult to distinguish between the two. What can you safely ignore?

Finally, a world where everything matters. How can we even begin to comprehend such a thing? It is a world where every part is connected to everything else. In this world, by virtue of something existing, it immediately matters. It matters what we think, what we do, what we value, how we love, how we create, how we compose ourselves, how we treat each other and the world at large. It is a world where every moment is sacred, because it all adds up. It is a world where every day we fail to rise to the challenge, but we try anyway, because it matters. It is a world where nothing is ever lost.

The choice is yoursโ€ฆ and your decision could actually matter quite a bit.
